Technical Support Intern:
We are currently accepting applications for a Technical Support Intern to join our team in Burlington, MA. This position will provide technical assistance and training to end users of our desktop mapping applications. The position also requires software testing, maintenance of various support databases and web pages, writing and debugging of installation scripts and data analysis.
The ideal candidate will have basic knowledge of software technical support and have a desire to build upon that knowledge. Knowledge of Windows operating systems, Microsoft Office products, GIS software, database applications and statistical software is strongly recommended. Solid writing skills are essential.
Job Duties: Provide technical assistance to end users of various GIS (Geographic Information System) applications including Territory Mapper and AlignStar. Maintain customer and prospect databases. Log technical support calls. Perform QA testing on new software versions.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
- Respond to pre and post-sale user inquiries regarding the capabilities of software.
- Provide technical assistance to end-users on the use of software to accomplish a particular task.
- Test new software releases to ensure that they function correctly. Establish testing plans and procedures and carry out product testing in accordance with accepted procedures.
- Maintain logs and databases of reported issues, customer installations, shipping records and other activities.
- Maintain technical support web pages including FAQ's, technical notes and downloads.
- Respond to client inquiries concerning software operation and diagnose software problems.
- Recommend or perform remedial actions to correct problems.
- Provide updates, status, and completion information to manager, problem request tracking system, and/or users, via voice mail, e-mail, or in-person communication.
Qualifications:
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The duties listed above are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.
Education/Experience:
Must have already completed or be enrolled in a Bachelor's degree (B. A.) program from a four-year college or university. Preferred areas of concentration (major or minor) include Information Technology, Geography, Business, Marketing and Statistics.
Language Ability:
Ability to understand, analyze, and interpret common geographic, business and marketing problems and to guide software users to solutions using TTG software. Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, or members of the business community. Ability to write clearly and succinctly in responding to customers questions and for documenting problems, workarounds and for communicating to the development group.
Math Ability:
Ability to apply advanced mathematical concepts such as indices, equations and various statistical analyses. Ability to apply mathematical operations to such tasks as frequency distribution, thematic analysis and geographical distribution of various types of data.
Reasoning Ability:
Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
Computer Skills:
To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of all recent Windows Operating Systems, Word Processing software, Spreadsheet software, GIS and Mapping software, Internet software, Graphics editing software and Database software.
Compensation and Hours:
We will consider candidates that are available on a full or part-time basis with a minimum commitment of 20 hours per week. This is an hourly paid internship position with pay dependent on experience and skill. Individuals that exhibit a high level of skill and outstanding performance during their internship may be considered for full-time paid employment in the future. No additional benefits are provided during the internship.
